The 199 hotline in Thailand’s capital Bangkok has been receiving calls every 15 minutes from citizens seeking assistance in dealing with snakes that have entered their houses, with more than 100 incidents reported each day, according to the helpline.
The majority of the snakes are pythons and cobras, and the rescue personnel has a success record of more than 90% in capturing the snakes, the helpline centre said.
Every day, some 200 calls are made to Bangkok’s emergency hotline, requesting assistance with pests like as snakes and wasps. According to the Bangkok Post, nearly half of the calls are for snakes.
“On average, a report is made every 15 minutes throughout every 24-hour period,” an operator told Bangkok Post.
Bangkok has long been home to snakes, and their numbers are constantly growing, causing concern among Thai residents.
Almost 80% of the time, the snake calls for pythons searching for a meal.
Most pythons in Thailand belong to the reticulated variety, the world’s longest reptile, with the occasional more docile Burmese python.
Once captured, the snakes are normally sent to the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation and released back into the wild.
