Status Orange alert issued for Kerry and west Clare as ‘very strong gusts’ forecast

Strong winds are expected to hit several areas of the nation today and tomorrow; a Status Orange warning has been issued for Kerry and west Clare.

West Clare and Kerry are expected to have winds of at least 110 km/h.

The Status Orange alert in Co. Kerry goes into effect at 2 a.m. tonight and lasts until 8 a.m. tomorrow.

The Status Orange alert is also in effect in west Clare from 2 am, however it is only in effect until 5 am.

Separately, a Status Yellow wind warning with “very strong gusts” has been issued for a number of counties this evening.

Up to 9 p.m., the warning is still in effect for the following counties: Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Louth, Meath, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, and Waterford.

At one o’clock in the morning tomorrow, another warning will go into place for the counties of Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Galway, and Mayo.

It will be in effect till tomorrow at 5 o’clock.

It is expected to rain heavily today in some areas during the evening, with showers moving in later into Connacht and Munster.

Most extreme temperatures will range from 7 to 11 degrees.

Tonight will be windy with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, which will be particularly strong over the Atlantic coastlines.
