Status Yellow weather warnings in effect for six counties

Heavy rain and strong winds threaten flooding and travel disruptions across Munster and Connacht

Status Yellow rain and wind warnings are in effect for six counties today, with Met Éireann cautioning that heavy downpours could cause localized flooding, difficult travel conditions, and poor visibility.

Cork and Kerry have been under a Yellow rain warning since this morning, remaining in place until 8pm this evening. Galway and Mayo are also under Yellow rain warnings expiring at 8pm.

A separate Status Yellow wind warning affects Cork, Kerry, Waterford, and Wexford until 11pm tonight. Met Éireann warns that very strong and gusty southerly winds with coastal gales could create hazardous travel conditions, cause fallen trees, and lead to wave overtopping along shorelines.

The national forecaster predicts a wet and windy day nationwide, with heavy rain spreading from the southwest raising flooding risks. Fresh to strong and gusty southeast winds are expected, with temperatures reaching 11 to 14 degrees Celsius.

Rain will clear northeastwards this evening, giving way to clear spells with scattered heavy showers. Tonight’s temperatures will range from 7 to 11 degrees.

Halloween Outlook

Tomorrow’s Halloween will start breezy with wet weather affecting southern and eastern counties during the morning before clearing by midday. Sunny spells will develop throughout the afternoon, though scattered showers will persist in places.

Trick-or-treaters can expect generally dry conditions in the evening, though rain will begin moving into southern areas overnight. Daytime temperatures will reach 11 to 14 degrees.

Residents in affected areas should exercise caution on roads, secure outdoor items, and remain alert for potential flooding in low-lying areas.
