Strawberry Moon to illuminate Ireland’s skies tonight

The strawberry moon will light up the night sky this weekend.

The full Moon will be visible across Ireland and the UK in the early hours of Sunday morning at around 4.41 am when it will be at its fullest.

The strawberry moon typically appears in June as the last full moon of spring or the first of summer and is positioned lower in the sky in the Northern Hemisphere.

The Moon will be visible in all its elegance as a dry and generally clear night is predicted by Met Eireann.

The strawberry moon got its name from Native American tribes “to mark the ripening of ‘June-bearing’ strawberries that are ready to be gathered,” according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, which notes, “As flowers bloom and early fruit ripens, June is a time of great abundance for many.”

“Horse Moon, Dyan Moon, and Rose Moon” are the Celtic names for Strawberry Moon. The “Flower Moon” and “Planting Moon” are further English names.

The moon will look more golden or orange and emit a warmer glow.
