Taoiseach congratulates President-elect Donald Trump, vows to deepen US-Ireland ties

Taoiseach Simon Harris on Wednesday extended congratulations to Donald Trump as he secured victory in the U.S. presidential election.

Harris acknowledged the enduring relationship between Ireland and the United States, expressing a commitment to strengthening these historic bonds.

In a formal statement, Taoiseach Harris said, “I congratulate President-elect Donald Trump on his victory in the U.S. presidential election. Ireland and the United States have deep and historical bonds of people, and we will work to make these even stronger in the years ahead.”

He also highlighted the importance of collaboration, noting shared values of democracy and international law.

Meanwhile, Tánaiste Micheál Martin spoke on the priority of maintaining consistent, high-level engagement with Washington, emphasizing the importance of bipartisan relations on Capitol Hill. He noted that the Irish government is eager to build on the rapport established during Trump’s prior administration.

Martin reaffirmed the Irish government’s commitment to advancing mutual interests, saying, “We look forward to working with him and his new administration in a constructive manner, as we did during his previous term in office.”
