Taoiseach Micheál Martin unveils new cabinet with promotions and key changes

Taoiseach and Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has announced his new Cabinet, revealing significant changes and several promotions across ministerial roles.

Of the 15 senior ministerial positions, only Fine Gael’s Peter Burke retains his previous role, while Fianna Fáil’s Charlie McConalogue is the sole minister demoted from Cabinet.

Key appointments include:

Taoiseach: Micheál Martin
Tánaiste, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence: Simon Harris
Minister for Public Expenditure, Reform and Digitalisation: Jack Chambers
Minister for Justice, Home Affairs, and Migration: Jim O’Callaghan
Minister for Social Protection and Rural Development: Dara Calleary
Minister for Housing and Heritage: James Browne
Minister for Climate and Transport: Darragh O’Brien
Minister for Higher Education and Innovation: James Lawless
Minister for Children and Equality: Norma Foley
Minister for Finance: Paschal Donohoe
Minister for Health: Jennifer Carroll MacNeill
Minister for Education and Youth: Helen McEntee
Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries: Martin Heydon
Minister for Enterprise and Employment: Peter Burke
Minister for Arts, Media and Sport: Patrick O’Donovan
Mary Butler, Fianna Fáil TD, has been appointed Government chief whip with added responsibility for mental health.

Notably, three Fianna Fáil members—James Lawless, James Browne, and Dara Calleary—have been promoted to full ministries. Dara Calleary’s return marks a redemption following his resignation during the 2020 Golfgate controversy.

The Cabinet gender split remains a point of discussion, with 12 men and three women in senior positions, adjusted to 12-4 when including Mary Butler as chief whip.
