Unemployment in Ireland rises marginally to 4.2% in June

Unemployment rate in Ireland rose marginally to 4.2 per cent in June, according to data from Central Statistics Office (CSO).

This was up 0.2 percentage points from the previous month.

CSO figures also indicated the seasonally adjusted number of people classified as unemployed was 117,100 in June, compared with 113,000 in May.

However, on an annual basis, the unemployment rate fell to 4.2 per cent in June 2024 compared to 4.4 per cent in June 2023, the CSO said.

Data also suggested that unemployment among the youth (15-24 years) increased to 8.1 per cent in comparison to 7.7 per cent in May 2024.

As per the Central Bank, the unemployment rate is projected to remain low, averaging 4.5 per cent out to 2026.
