In a heartwarming celebration of Yuletide spirit, Waterford, the enchanting Irish city, has clinched the coveted title of ‘European City of Christmas.’ The announcement was made by The Christmas Cities Network, with support from the European Parliament, following a meticulous selection process led by Danuta Hübner, a distinguished Member of the European Parliament from Poland.
Competing against a backdrop of festive cities across the European Union, the UK, Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, and Switzerland, Waterford emerged triumphant in the category for cities with a population of less than 100,000.
The judging panel commended Waterford City for its unwavering commitment to preserving its unique cultural heritage. The spirit of camaraderie and cooperation among the city’s residents was also highlighted as exemplary.
For several years, Waterford City has been captivating locals and visitors alike with its ‘Winterval’ celebration, drawing an impressive 500,000 attendees each year.
The grand award ceremony is scheduled to take place on January 3 in the vibrant city of Madrid, adding an extra dose of merriment to Waterford’s festive season.
