Irish Rail on Thursday announced it will revert to its pre-August timetable from October 14 in view of “enormous disruption” caused to passengers due to the introduction of a new schedule.
“Iarnod Eireann deeply regrets the disruption to our customers’ daily journeys and lives which have resulted from timetable changes since August 26,” the Irish Rail said in a statement.
“In accommodating increased services on the Dublin to Belfast route, and managing overall capacity in the city centre area, the changes had a disproportionate negative impact on commuting punctuality and overall journey times, for which we are sorry,” it said.
Morning timetables on routes operating to and from Connolly will switch back to the pre-August 26 timetable with minor time changes, the Irish Rail said.
It also said there will be revised running times on a number of Belfast services, with the proposed 7.50 am Dublin Connolly to Belfast train now set to operate at 7.40 am to prevent congestion at Malahide.
Some evening services currently starting at Pearse or Grand Canal Dock will now begin at Bray or Dun Laoghaire, facilitated by minor changes to departure times to a number of DART, Northern, Maynooth and Phoenix Park Tunnel commuter trains.
