Many users have reconnected to WhatsApp after a service outage knocked the popular messaging programme down for around two hours on Tuesday morning.
The Meta-owned site has not officially verified the reason for the problem, but early on Tuesday, it informed users that it was trying to resolve it.
While app users all across the world could see their conversations, they couldn’t send or receive new messages.
A persistent message was showing for many users at the top of the app, saying it is “connecting” to the server, but was never able to complete this process, leaving them offline.
Many people took to social media to express their disappointment with the situation.
“We know people had trouble sending messages on WhatsApp today. We have fixed the issue and apologize for any inconvenience,” a spokesperson for WhatsApp parent company Meta Platforms said.
