Woman rescued by brave man from drowning in Co Clare

A woman has been rescued while drowning off the Black Rock at Spanish Point on Co Clare. The incident happened around 11.30 on Sunday morning where a woman in her 60s got into difficulty while swimming.

A man who has been walking on the beach immediately responded and helped her get ashore before the emergency services arrived.

Kilkee unit of the Coast Guard, Clare County Fire and Rescue Service, National Ambulance Service, the RNLI and Gardai had attended the scene following a rescue alert.

The woman was in shock and suffered hypothermia. The Coast Guard and fire service treated her until ambulance paramedics arrived and she did not need hospitalisation.
