Daniel Murtagh sentenced lifetime for murdering former partner Nadine Lott

Daniel Murtagh from Clondalkin has been sentenced for a lifetime imprisonment following the jury found that he is guilty of murdering former partner Nadine Lott. Passing the sentence today, Mr. Justice Michael MacGrath called the murder of Nadine “brutal” and said that the evidence from gardaí and first responders who attended the scene in the aftermath of the attack, some who remain greatly upset, was “testament to the terror, evil and brutality” that the deceased was subjected to. He also extended his condolences to the victim’s friends and family.

The 30-year-old Nadine Lott was killed at her apartment by Murtagh and according to her mother, ‘Lott was completely unrecognisable’ after the brutal attack by the 34-year-old culprit. The verdict comes after a two week trial started last July.

The murder took place on 13 December 2019 where Daniel Murtagh beat Nadine to death and when found by her mother, she was lying on her back in the kitchen and the apartment was full of blood.

“Nadine, my daughter, my baby was beyond recognition, she was gasping, blood pouring from her in so many places that all I could do was lie on the floor with her holding her hand trying to give comfort, comfort that I was there.” Mrs Lott said.

Nadine was immediately taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital but she lost life on 17th December.

Murtagh was taken to custody on 16th December 2019 and the life sentence takes effect from that day.

Earlier on August 5 this year, the jury unanimously convicted Murtagh for the murder of his former partner. He had pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter. He had told the court that he was severely drunk and smoked marijuana on the night of the murder.
