Golden Gloves: Major handball competition in Belfast

An important handball competition took place this weekend in Belfast with the participation of more than 200 players from Ireland and abroad.

The St. Paul’s GAA club hosts one of the most well-attended Golden Gloves competitions in the country.

It attracted competitors from the US, Canada, and Spain as well.

The city, which has some of the best handball infrastructure in the country, will host 300 games over the course of three days at ten different locations.

Competitions are run from Under-13 to the Over-60s, but most of the attention focuses on the senior men’s and women’s titles.

Famous athletes claim it signals the start of the competitive season, and many make the effort to attend.
