Indian nurse couple involved in rental scam fined €20000 by Irish court

Rental scams have grown significantly in recent times in Ireland amid the housing crisis. People looking for properties to rent often get fooled by prevalent rental scams.

Recently,  an Indian couple who were so avaricious as to take advantage of Ireland’s housing crisis has finally received punishment from the court. The Indian couple who pretended to own the rental home and rented it to another Indian family for 500 euros more was caught.

The court fined the Indian couple who working as nurses in Dublin.

The new scams come in the wake of reports that numerous victims have lost money as a result of various scams that profit from Ireland’s housing crisis. New job seekers and students are often the victims of these scams in Ireland.

The Indian couple who came in this way charged €500 more in monthly rent by pretending that the rented house was their own house.

The court fined the Indian nurse couple €20,000. When they purchased a new home, instead of vacating the apartment they lived in, they rented it to another Indian family without knowing the landlord.

The scammers gave the apartment away to the Indian family while claiming to be its owners after renting it for 1,300 euros from an Irish landlord. They charged a rent of 1800 euros per month for more than two years. The scammers made the repairs themselves, claiming it was their own apartment. The actual owners were Irish senior citizens, but since the rent was exact, they hardly ever visited the apartment.

The scam came to light when the original owners, the Irish couple, visited the apartment directly after the nursing couple, who had bought more than 500 euros per month for more than two years, went to India for vacation and was unavailable for calls.

The gentleman landlord himself gave the Indian family instructions and support to file a complaint against the nursing couple who had rented the house.

The court ruled that more than €20000 should be paid to the Indian family as compensation including the additional amount charged. The court spared the Nursing couple from jail only considering that they had a child with them. Apart from nursing work, they run many other businesses in Dublin.

It is consoling to know that some Indians support and help their fellow citizens who move abroad and live as expatriates. Many Irish Indians are ready to assist Indians from the time they arrive at the airport until they are able to take care of their needs. However, It is shocking, to learn that some of the Indians in this group are engaging in fraudulent activities against their fellow citizens.
