Kitchen helpers, shop sales assistants, and bartenders are the most common minimum wage jobs in Ireland, according to new research by the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI).

Funded by the Low Pay Commission, the study analysed online job vacancy data and found that minimum wage roles made up about 7 per cent of all hourly-paid job vacancies in 2023.
However, after the minimum wage rose from €11.30 to €12.70 per hour in 2024, that figure more than doubled to over 15 per cent.
Regional differences were also stark. From 2021 to 2024, only 7 per cent of job ads in Dublin offered minimum wage pay, while Donegal saw rates above 20 per cent.
The report identified catering and facilities management as the primary sector employing minimum wage workers in Ireland.
