Two schools in Dublin’s Lucan area were evacuated this morning following reports of a “major gas leak”.
Children and staff from Scoil Áine Naofa and St. Thomas’ Junior National School were safely evacuated as a precautionary measure.
In a statement, Dublin Fire Brigade said a gas main was struck near Esker Drive off the R120 and cautioned motorists of traffic restrictions that remain in place in the area.
Gas Networks Ireland said it “responded immediately to a report of third-party damage to a gas pipeline in Lucan”. It further stated that staff arrived on the site at 9.28 am and the situation was made safe 30 minutes later at 9.58 am.
Parents were urged to collect their children immediately from the main entrance, and have been requested to take their coats and schoolbags tomorrow.
