After a drone was spotted at Dublin Airport on Friday evening, a number of flights were cancelled.
Following the sighting, flights bound for Dublin Airport were diverted to Shannon and Belfast Airports. Flights scheduled to depart from Dublin Airport were temporarily put on hold, Dublin Live reported.
A Dublin Airport spokesperson said: “Flight operations at Dublin Airport were suspended for safety reasons for a very short period (less than 10 minutes) this evening (Friday) following a confirmed drone sighting on the airfield. It is illegal to fly drones within five kilometres of an airport in the State.
“The safety and security of airport users is daa’s key priority at all times and staff at Dublin Airport and An Garda Síochana remain vigilant in relation to drone activity in the vicinity of the airport.”
This is the second occasion in less than a week that a drone sighting has prevented an airport flight. On January 25, 2023, a drone was spotted at Dublin Airport, which resulted in a 20-minute flight delay.
It is against the law to fly a drone within five kilometres of an airport in Ireland at the moment.
