Heather Humphries Appointed Deputy Leader of Fine Gael Following Simon Cowan’s Resignation

In the wake of Simon Cowan’s resignation, Heather Humphries has been named as the new Deputy Leader of the Fine Gael Party. The decision comes amid a series of political shifts following Leo Varadkar’s resignation as Fine Gael leader and Prime Minister.

Humphries, currently serving as Social Welfare Minister and representing Cavan-Monaghan, expressed gratitude for the appointment, calling it a great honor. She pledged to continue the work of her predecessor, Cowan, who also stepped down as Minister for Trade and Employment.

Simon Harris, the incoming leader of Fine Gael and Prime Minister-designate, will assume office next week after parliamentary proceedings resume following the Easter break. At 37 years old, Harris will be the youngest Prime Minister in Ireland’s history.

The appointment of Humphries as Deputy Leader underscores Fine Gael’s commitment to navigating through these transitions and maintaining stability in leadership roles.
