Dublin shop offering customers 10% discount if they order in Irish

An ice cream shop in a central Dublin store has offered a 10 percent discount to all customers who order in Irish.

In order to encourage customers to use Irish, Leamhain, an ice cream shop in Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre, has set up the discount as a special incentive.

The owners have also put up signs that can help people unfamiliar with Irish to participate in the fun initiative.

The shop serves ice cream that meets a variety of dietary needs and is located in the food court of the shopping centre.

Leamhain’s ice cream is suitable for vegans, coeliacs, and people with nut allergies to enjoy. The ice cream is the first of its kind in Ireland, according to the proprietors’ website, due to the ice-appropriateness creams for different dietary categories.

The owners took inspiration for the idea from BÁC le Gaeilge, a project that encourages the use of Irish throughout Dublin City. BÁC receives funding from Dublin City Council.

It urges owners of companies to take part in simple steps like posting menus and signs in Irish on their premises. Similar to that, the programme invites various companies to band together to establish an Irish language network.
