Dublin’s Stella cinema voted one of the most beautiful in the world

The Stella in Rathmines is one of Ireland’s best ‘luxury’ cinemas and they’ve even added a diner . and it has been voted one of the most beautiful in the world.

Many cinemas around the world are shut due to COVID-19 pandemic situation .When Timeout.com decided to rate the world’s most beautiful theatres in the world, with Stella Cinema in Rathmines ranking number 16 in the top 100. The Stella’s was ranked ahead of the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles which has hosted a number of Academy Awards ceremonies

The Stella first opened in 1923, has had many incarnations since, but has been mostly closed to the public for about a decade. The mission with the Stella has been to restore it to its 1920s art deco glory, and they have done a gorgeous job on it. The restoration was aided by historical photos and research into the original cinema; the commercial project was inspired by luxury cinemas internationally. The refurbished Stella reopened its doors on the 31st of October,2017 after undergoing extensive renovations to bring it back to its full splendour.

The foyer has wooden dark grey paneling, and a white and black mosaic floor, with the S for Stella as the centerpiece, surrounded by hand-laid fan-patterned mosaics. This, and another similar floor area outside the main auditorium door, is a careful reproduction of an original floor upstairs at balcony level.
