Electricity bills in Ireland to rise by €8.42 a month

Household electricity bills are set to increase by up to €8.42 a month over the next year, RTE reported.

This rise is attributed to the energy regulator’s adjustment of network charges.

The Commission for the Regulation of Utilities (CRU) has justified the increase, stating that network charges are essential for ongoing investments in the electricity system.

These charges cover the costs associated with building, maintaining, and operating the transmission network managed by Eirgrid and the distribution system operated by ESB Networks.

Annually, both organizations submit requests to the regulator for additional allowances. The CRU carefully reviews these requests before making a decision on whether to approve them.
