A tragic accident occurred on Monday at 5:50pm on the N80 in Ballintrane, Co Carlow, resulting in the death of a woman in her 30s and serious injuries to two men. The collision, involving a car and a van, happened near the Fighting Cocks restaurant and pub.
The woman, who was driving the car, was treated by emergency services at the scene but sadly succumbed to her injuries. The two men in the van were airlifted to a hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment for their serious injuries.
The road remains closed for a forensic investigation, and local diversions are in place. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have camera footage, including dashcam recordings, from the area at the time of the collision.
