Free online therapy sessions for anxiety and depression starts soon by HSE

A new project by the HSE is all set to provide free counselling therapy for anxiety and depression throughout Ireland. The move is following the success of a pilot project funded by the HSE and carried out by SilverCloud, an online provider of mental health supports.

According to a report by The Irish Times, 88% of those who participated in the initial pilot therapy were able to reduce their symptoms.

The service is available to people referred by GPs, primary care psychologists, the national counselling service and Jigsaw mental health charity. The HSE pays for the project.

According to the mental health watchdogs in the country, many people are suffering from anxiety and depression, especially during these pandemic times. The new project by the HSE will be a great help as many of them are unable to go for in-person therapy sessions. Also the free sessions will benefit those who have middle income and financial issues.

The therapy sessions typically last eight to 12 weeks and decisions on treatment are made by clinicians supporting service users.
