Second shooting in North Dublin area raises concerns about violence

Gardaí have intensified their investigation into the shooting of an Indian-origin man in a residential area of Dublin last week, as a second similar incident occurred in North Dublin yesterday.
The first shooting took place on Templeview Avenue in Clarehall last Thursday night around 7:49pm. The victim, a pizza delivery driver, was attacked by anti-social elements and sustained a head injury but escaped without serious harm. He was transported by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital for treatment.
The Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit has conducted a technical examination of the scene. The motive for the attack is not yet known.
A Garda spokesperson has appealed to anyone with information or evidence regarding the Templeview Avenue shooting to come forward. Witnesses to the incident are urged to contact investigators, and anyone in possession of camera footage, including dash-cams, who was traveling in the vicinity of Templeview Estate, Clarehall, Dublin 17, between 7:30pm and 8:15pm on Thursday, December 11, 2025, is asked to provide footage.
Witnesses can contact the investigation team at Coolock Garda Station on 01 666 4200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
A similar shooting occurred in the North Dublin area yesterday evening. A 20-year-old man was injured in the incident and taken to hospital by ambulance. Initial reports indicate his injuries are not serious.
The shots were first heard in front of the Centra shop in the Coultry area of Ballymun. Reports suggest the young man attempted to run after seeing the attackers and was then shot at in the Coultry Terrace area. One shot narrowly missed his head.
The scene has been cordoned off for technical examination, with Gardaí confirming investigations are ongoing. The motive behind this shooting is also unknown.
A motor vehicle was found burning on Kilbarron Road, Dublin 5, shortly after the shooting. Gardaí suspect the two incidents may be linked.
“Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed either of these incidents to come forward. Anyone traveling in the Coultry Terrace area of Dublin 9 or Kilbarron Road, Dublin 5, between 6:50pm and 8:10pm, is asked to provide any camera footage (including dash-cams) to Gardaí who are investigating,” a statement said.
The incidents come amid ongoing concerns about violence in Dublin, particularly attacks on delivery drivers and other vulnerable workers. The Indian community in Ireland has expressed alarm over the targeting of delivery workers, many of whom are of Indian origin.
Gardaí are treating both shootings seriously and are exploring all possible motives, including whether the attacks were random acts of violence, targeted incidents, or linked to organized criminal activity in the area.
