Gardaí appeal for witnesses after football star dies

A 48-year-old man died in hospital after an assault happened outside Colbert Train Station in Limerick on Friday night.

The dead man was named Alan Bourke (48) from St Mary’s Park in the city. A talented footballer in his youth, he was a former Ireland youth soccer international who played with Mungret Regional Football Club in the ’90s.

A major investigation has now been launched and Gardai have been checking CCTV footage from a number of cameras in the vicinity of the crime scene.

Superintendent Dermot O’Connor said they are particularly interested in any camera footage people might have:

“[We ask] any person who was in the Parnell Street area in Limerick, Good Friday between 10 pm and 10.40 pm to contact us,” he said.

“For any person or road-users who were in Parnell Street and nearby Lord Edward Street and Davis Street who have camera footage, including dash-cam, to make that footage available to our investigating team.”

“We also ask for any person who may have information relevant to our investigation please to contact Roxboro Road Garda Station on 061 214340 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.”
