Google Ireland has submitted plans for a 705-square-meter interactive mural spanning seven stories at its European headquarters in Dublin 4. The ‘Urban Growth’ installation would combine traditional art with augmented reality technology.

Artist Sean Atmos, known for creating Ireland’s largest murals, will lead the project at South Bank House on Barrow Street. The mural will integrate Google’s AI tools and allow viewers to access digital experiences through their smartphones.
The installation, planned to remain for 10 years, aims to celebrate the area’s industrial heritage while highlighting its modern transformation. Viewers will be able to trigger animations and additional content by scanning the mural with their phones from a dedicated viewing area featuring plants and wildflowers.
According to The Journal, Dublin city planners expressed support for the project during pre-planning meetings, noting its positive contribution to the streetscape. The design emerged from community engagement sessions and aims to bridge the area’s historic Bolands Mills with contemporary developments.
Google has submitted comprehensive maintenance plans, and a decision on the application is expected in March. The project would include educational plaques explaining the artwork’s connection to local heritage and Irishtown Nature Park.
