Govt leaders to discuss accommodation of asylum seekers

Today’s meeting of government leaders is expected to include a discussion on the accommodation of asylum seekers.

It comes in response to a decision made by the High Court.

The High Court found last month that Roderic O’Gorman, minister of integration, was in violation of the law by not housing one asylum claimant.

The court is scheduled to announce a decision on the case on Friday.

The three Coalition party leaders are anticipated to think about a response today as the decision might have wider implications.

The issue was also addressed at a Cabinet sub-committee last week.

The government has to get homeless asylum seekers off the streets and into accommodation, according to yesterday’s statement from Minister of State for Integration Joe O’Brien.

There has been a rise in the number of homeless asylum seekers in Ireland in recent weeks.

There are now 582 people.

Outside the International Protection office on Mount Street in Dublin, a few of them have constructed more than 20 tents.
