A new report by Dublin Live is has become a huge concern among the public where it shows that 157 people were hospitalized in Dublin last year alone after being stabbed. The city came under light due to the increased assaults against civilians including brutal stabbing and attacking.
Out of 157 victims, 136 were males and 21 were females. Many of them were carried out by youngsters and teenagers. In 2019, 178 people were hospitalized following such incidents. And in 2018, 164 such cases were reported in the city itself.
Sinn Fein’s Justice spokesperson Martin Kenny responded to this report by saying that such crimes are mainly happening among youth community and young people are carrying knives for personal protection. He commented that such bad trends among the youth need to be controlled and strong interventions need to be made against such cases.
Kenny said that the way young people are attracted to bad gangs should be avoided and better facilities need to be set up for the youth. It is not practical to end such criminal activities by banning the knife that is essential in the kitchen and for other works, but the mentality of the people who use knife in such situations against their opponents should be changed, Kenny added. Finally, he told the media that it is necessary to consider extending the jail term for such crimes.
As reflection of these shocking incidents, Dublin couldn’t make it the list of the safest cities in the world prepared by The Economist for this year.
