Historical skeletal remains have been discovered from a construction site in Cork City. The skeletal remains of six people was discovered on the site of the former Nancy Spain’s pub on Barrack Street where a new housing project is proposed.
Initially two weeks ago skeletal remains had been discovered at the place.
The discoveries are not a matter of Gardai as they are believed to be decades or even centuries old. They are being dealt by archaeology department and will be sent for further analysis.
‘It isn’t uncommon to find human remains within an urban context, but not an everyday occurrence either,’ said Cork City archaeologist Ciara Brett to RTE.
The excavation of the site is expected to be completed by the end of the week, she said.
Further analysis to find out how old these bones are to be carried out using radiocarbon dating. The help of an osteoarchaeologist will also be sought to identify information such as age of the individuals and sex.
It can also be diseases or natural calamities that caused the death.
