The Department of Health confirmed 1,501 new Covid-19 cases in Ireland on Friday. As per the reports there are 169 patients admitted in the hospitals and 23 of them are in intensive care units.
The Health Service Executive (HSE) also warned the public over a text scam for Covid vaccine appointments. Some people are receiving a text message offering them pre-book a vaccination appointment, which is claimed to be from HSE. The message also contains a link to the payment page for the vaccine through which the scammers try to hack credit/debit card details of recipients.
The officials confirmed that the vaccines offered in Ireland are free of cost and any message telling you otherwise is a scam. Also, there is no need to give bank details to get vaccinated in the country. People who receive such messages can contact HSELive on 1800 700 700 for clarifications or they can get help from gardai. To register for vaccine, always use the HSE’s website https://vaccine.hse.ie through which free vaccination is available.
In a different report published in the The New York Times by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warned the new Covid Delta variant is as transmissible as chickenpox, as well as causes severe illness than the former variants. Given that, the report also recommends strict vaccination among healthcare workers and return of universal mask system. The variant was first discovered in India and is now prevalent in most of the countries in the world.
Vaccines can prevent Delta variant, at the same time virus can be passed even through the vaccinated people to the non-vaccinated ones, which is a serious issue, says the report. So, the experts recommend using masks even after full vaccination until the treat is minimized. Delta variant is more transmissible than MERS, SARS, Ebola, the common cold, the seasonal flu and small pox, the report underlined.
