Indian Origin Tarun Kanyamarala scripts the history of Chess by becoming Ireland’s youngest ever International Master at the age of 17 years.
Tarun Kanyamarala had scored 7/8 to claim the norm with a round to spare at the National Team Championships during the Irish St Patrick’s Week Festival.
At 17 years and 5 months, he has become Ireland’s youngest ever IM by beating the record held by Brian Kelly. Brian, at 20 years of age had claimed the title of being Ireland’s youngest International Master in chess in 1998.
This title, after 24 years, will now be held by Tarun Kanyamarala.
Tarun Kanyamarala’s sister Trisha Kanyamarala, at 16, holds the title of First Women International Master (WIM) in Ireland.
