Dublin: Israel’s ambassador to Ireland, Dana Ehrlich, has issued a warning following Ireland’s decision to recognize Palestine. Israel recalled Ehrlich for discussions in Jerusalem, emphasizing that Ireland’s pro-Palestinian stance could harm its reputation as a technical hub. Ehrlich highlighted concerns from Israeli investors in Ireland’s IT sector, hinting at potential economic repercussions.
Ireland, Spain, and Norway announced their recognition of Palestine, prompting strong criticism from Israel. Ehrlich noted that the move might jeopardize future collaborations in cyber security, healthcare, and climate change between the two nations. Additionally, Israel’s national airline, EAAI, decided to cease its direct flights to Dublin.
Prime Minister Simon Harris defended Ireland’s decision, stressing that it aims to support peace and a two-state solution. Deputy Prime Minister Micheál Martin echoed this sentiment, condemning violence and advocating for normal relations between Israelis and Palestinians. Despite Israel’s accusations of bias, Ireland maintains that its position is driven by a commitment to peace and international law.
