Voting is currently underway across Ireland to seal the fate of more than 680 candidates contesting for 174 seats in the 2024 General Election.
Polling, which started at 7am, will remain open until 10pm tonight. Over 3.6 million people are eligible to vote across 43 Dail constituencies.
While counting will take place on Saturday morning, the first indication of the success will emerge at 10pm today when an exit poll result is announced on RTE.
The final results could take several days to emerge owing to Ireland’s single transferable vote system.
The country witnessed a heated three-week campaign in the run-up to the polls, with housing, immigration and economy dominating the agenda.
Centre-right incumbents Fine Gael and Fianna Fail are hoping to retain power in the forthcoming term, ruling out a coalition with the left-wing Sinn Fein because of fundamental differences in policy.
