Ireland’s great outdoors is about to get even greater. Minister Heather Humphreys has announced a whopping €1 million investment to spruce up and promote 517 walking trails across the country.
The funding will be spread among 203 community groups, with grants ranging from €1,500 to €35,000. These local heroes will use the money to upgrade existing trails, develop new ones, and put their scenic routes on the map for tourists.
From the rugged coastlines of Cork to the rolling hills of Wicklow, walking enthusiasts will soon enjoy improved trails in nearly every corner of Ireland. Popular routes like the Dingle Way in Kerry and the Sheep’s Head Way in Cork are among those set to benefit.
“Our walkways and outdoor trails really do showcase all that is good about our rural towns and villages,” Minister Humphreys said. She praised the community groups and volunteers who maintain these trails, calling their work “wonderful.”
The initiative aims to make Ireland’s natural beauty more accessible to both locals and visitors. So whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just fancy a stroll to clear your head, Ireland’s trails are ready to welcome you with open arms – and now, with a little extra polish.
This investment is part of the government’s broader strategy to promote outdoor recreation and rural development. So lace up those boots, Ireland – adventure awaits just around the bend!
