The Irish government is tightening its measures against airlines that allow passengers to enter the country without proper documentation. Justice Minister Helen McEntee announced that a new bill will increase fines from €3,000 to €5,000 per undocumented passenger. This initiative is part of broader efforts to control immigration and prevent illegal entry into Ireland.
Last year, the number of people arriving in Ireland without adequate documents decreased by one-third, thanks to the government’s measures. Airlines failing to properly check passengers’ documents were fined a total of €1.5 million. McEntee emphasized that these fines are crucial for maintaining the integrity of Ireland’s immigration system.
The new legislation, to be introduced in the Dail, aims to further reduce the number of undocumented arrivals by imposing heavier penalties on airlines. The government believes that stricter enforcement will deter airlines from neglecting their responsibility to verify passenger documents.
This move is one of several strategies employed by the Irish government to strengthen immigration laws and ensure better control over who enters the country.
