Ireland to introduce law revoking citizenship for people deemed ‘threat’ to the State

Ireland’s Minister of Justice Helen McEntee will introduce a new legislation before the Dail this week that allow for the revoking of Irish citizenship certificates in “very limited circumstances”.

According to a report in Irish independent, the process would be applied to someone who was granted the Irish citizenship is later deemed to pose a credible threat to the State. It will also applicable if someone is found to have obtained citizenship through fraudulent means.

Minister McEntee will introduce the measures to the Cabinet as part of wide range of matters related to immigration, including the EU Migration and Asylum Pact.

The legislation will be deliberated in the Dail and Seanad this week. It is expected to be approved before the government brings it into a law.
