Ireland’s nightclubs to reopen from today; More exemptions announced for weddings and live shows

The government has given permission to reopen nightclubs in the country from today. The move is part of the earlier proposed reopening plans of the government, where majority of the restrictions to be eased from October 22.

Minister for Culture Catherine Martin confirmed that nightclubs will be able to return with 100% capacity. The clubs stay closed since March 2020 just after the emergence of Covid.

The government has announced more exemptions to the current restrictions including live entertainments and bars. From today, up to 1,500 people are allowed to stand while attending to live shows. Customers can form queues at bars following health guidelines and social distancing. Bars and clubs can open beyond 11.30pm but it will be reviewed after a while.

Sports events, weddings and religious events can take place at full capacity and there won’t be any need of Covid certificates to outdoor events.

Indoor events and restaurants still require Covid certificates. Inside restaurants, a maximum of 10 adults are allowed at one table. If children are present, maximum 15 people can be allowed (including children).

There were huge concerns from health experts on reopening of nightclubs amid the increasing threat from Covid in the community. But the government is advising the public to follow health guidelines and enjoy the exemptions. Taoiseach Micheál Martin has warned the public to be vigilant and to follow basic rules.
