Dublin – The Department of Justice revealed a significant uptick in Irish citizenship applications, set to triple by 2023. Last year, out of 22,500 applications, 20,000 were processed, with 13,700 individuals granted citizenship in 15 ceremonies. The surge continued from 2022, where 4,300 new citizens emerged from six ceremonies. Notably, despite a rise in various visas, citizenship grants remained stable.
Deputy Secretary-General Doncha O’Sullivan highlighted Indians as major visa applicants, with processing times ranging from six to 12 weeks. The department also disclosed a bolstered immigration force, totaling over 1,000 personnel. Conversely, 857 individuals faced deportation in 2023 for illegal activities or overstaying, facilitated by the Gardai. The Department’s commitment to immigration services remains evident amidst evolving demographic trends.
