Irish jobs at risk as Cisco cuts 7% of workforce to focus on AI, cybersecurity

Cisco Systems is planning to trim its workforce by laying off 7 per cent of its employees in the second round of jobs cut this year.

The move comes as the US-based networking equipment maker has decided to shift its focus to more growing areas in technology such as artificial intelligence and cybsersecurity. It recently announced a tie-up with Nvidia to develop infrastructure for AI systems.

The development could impact Irish jobs, as the firm has operations in Galway and Dublin.

This also comes two weeks after chipmaker Intel announced it would cut about 15,000 jobs to turn its business around to compete with more successful rivals like Nvidia and AMD.
