Cork City Council has approved the construction of 246 new homes in Blarney, marking a significant step forward in addressing the region’s housing needs. The development, set to be built at Ringwood east of Blarney town centre, represents the first phase of a larger housing project.
According to The Irish Examiner, the approved plans, submitted by Clockstrike Ltd in June, include a diverse mix of housing options. The development will feature 101 apartments spread across four-storey buildings, combining both one- and two-bedroom units. Additionally, the project includes 30 duplex homes and 115 houses.
City planners have highlighted the strategic importance of the development, suggesting it could serve as a “crucial catalyst” for future growth in the wider Blarney area. This approval comes following extensive pre-planning discussions between the developer and City Hall officials.
However, the decision wasn’t without controversy. Multiple local residents submitted concerns about the proposed development during the planning process, though these objections did not prevent the council from granting approval earlier this month.
The development marks one of the largest residential projects approved for Blarney in recent years and signals a significant step toward addressing housing demand in the Cork City region.
The project’s approval aligns with broader efforts to increase housing supply across Ireland, with construction expected to begin in the coming months.
