In a landmark victory, Migrant Nurses Ireland has propelled four Indian delegates to seats on the National Executive Council of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Union (INMO), the largest nursing trade union in Ireland.
Varghese Joy, the national convener of the organization, along with Treissa P Devassya representing Mater Public Hospital, clinched management seats, while Shyam Krishnan, the Waterford representative, secured a clinical seat. Additionally, Jibin Math, also supported by Migrant Nurses Ireland, triumphed in the clinical category.
The elections, contested by nearly fifty thousand nurses across Ireland, resulted in a closely contested win for the organization’s supporters. This historic moment marks the first time individuals of Indian origin have been elected to INMO’s Executive Council, responsible for shaping the union’s policies and decisions.
Migrant Nurses Ireland, currently in a partnership with INMO under a written agreement, aims to enhance collaboration with its newly elected representatives on the Executive Council. Their goal is to advocate for positions that benefit all nurses, including expatriates, and to foster greater effectiveness in addressing nursing concerns.
