The Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Minister Patrick O’Donovan has announced an €80 million capital funding package for higher education institutions across Ireland.
The funding is split into two equal portions:
- €40 million through the Higher Education Research Equipment Grant (HEREG) for purchasing world-leading research equipment
- €40 million via the Devolved Capital Grant for small-scale building works, including energy efficiency upgrades, health and safety improvements, and ICT equipment
Major allocations include:
- University College Dublin: €10.8 million
- Trinity College Dublin: €9.5 million
- University College Cork: €7.5 million
- Atlantic Technological University: €6.2 million
Minister O’Donovan emphasized that the funding will help institutions meet climate targets while delivering world-class facilities. HEA Head of Capital Programmes, Ciarán McCaffrey, noted that the funding will support vital research activity and campus infrastructure improvements for students and staff.
