Representatives of National Lottery have been called to appear before Oireachtas finance committee next Wednesday following criticism over unwinnable €19 million jackpot. Many including TD Bernard Durkan, had criticised National Lottery as it cannot decide the winner even after six months of continued draws. The Kildare North TD had also called for an official enquiry.
Last night’s 53rd draw also didn’t find a winner for the top prize which is capped at €19.06 million.
The representatives will appear before the committee next Wednesday. Mr. Durkan is also a member of the committee and said that he has a series of questions to ask National Lottery.
“The time has come for some pertinent questions. A lot can happen in six months. Dublin footballers’ unbeaten run came to an end, a summer heatwave came and went, Afghanistan fell to the Taliban, Omicron replaced Delta, Barbados became a Republic and Wally the Walrus visited our shores and left – without winning the Lotto jackpot like the rest of us,” the Mr. Dunkan said.
Earlier Taoiseach Micheal Martin had also backed Mr. Durkan’s call for an enquiry but said that it was out of his limits to decide. He also added that TD Durkan could move on with a plea for enquiry to concerned authorities.
