A 61-year-old man, who had been a member of Garda was arrested in connection with the seizure of cannabis in Dublin on Wednesday. The operation was carried out by The Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI) in five different places and seized 30 Kg of cannabis with a market value of €600,000. €47,000 of cash has also been discovered.
In connection with this, a retired garda officer was arrested and he is currently being detained at Irishtown Garda Station under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007. The GNBCI also suspect his involvement with organised crime gangs.
Investigations are ongoing.
