Teenage girl who suffered brutal attack in Dublin may lose eye sight, say doctors

17-year-old girl Alanna Quinn Idris, who was brutally attacked by four men in Ballyfermot, Dublin may lose sight of one eye, say doctors. Ms Quinn and a male friend were attacked near Ballyfermot Civic Centre at about 9.30pm on 30th December.

Ms Quinn has a ruptured eyeball, broken teeth and broken bones in her cheek and eye socket after the assault. There is a 90 per cent chance she will lose sight in one of her eyes, the doctors said. Her friend was also attacked and received stab wounds.

A fund raising campaign has been set up on GoFundMe to help Ms Quinn’s and her friend’s treatment and €24,121 have been raised as on Monday. You can donate here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/rally-around-alanna-and-hero-friend

The fund raised will be equally divided for the treatment of Ms Quinn and her friend.

“My girl is so strong. I know over time she will suffer more physically with multiple surgeries planned,” Ms Quinn’s mother said in a post on GoFundMe.

“I think the hardest to deal with is her eye. They ruptured her eyeball, the damage is extensive unfortunately with a 90 per cent chance of never regaining the sight in that eye (we are holding on so tightly to that 10 per cent).” she said.

Meanwhile gardai investigation is ongoing and according to the report, the assault was the result of a verbal abuse against Ms Quinn which started in a bus. A man used abusive words towards her and Ms Quinn and her friend questioned this.

Later on, the man in the bus came along with others and attacked Ms Quinn and her friend, it is believed. The attackers used a hurley stick, a saddle and seat post from an electric scooter, and a knife.

Gardai have collected evidences from a witness and they are also checking the CCTV visuals from the bus. No arrests have been made yet. Gardai have appealed for other witnesses if any to come forward.
