Nine Weather Stations In Ireland Reach Year’s Rainfall Total With 2 Months To Spare

In an unusual turn of weather events, nine weather stations across Ireland have already surpassed the annual average amount of rainfall, leaving two months remaining in the year. Met Eireann, the Irish Meteorological Service, recently published its climate report focusing on weather conditions throughout October.

These weather stations, located in Dublin, Cavan, Cork, Meath, Roscommon, and Galway, have experienced rainfall that matches or exceeds the long-term annual averages for the region. However, there has been significant variation in the amount of rainfall recorded, with some areas receiving less than usual, like Finner in Donegal, while others, like Roches Point and Cork Airport, received more than double the expected amount of rain during October.

The most intense rainfall of the month occurred on the 18th at Cork Airport, which reported its highest daily rainfall since 1995. Additionally, Moore Park in Cork experienced its wettest October in 59 years.

Despite the recent deluge, it’s worth noting that the month began with a period of fine weather. Phoenix Park recorded the highest temperature, slightly above 23 degrees Celsius. Interestingly, nine weather stations, including those in Dublin, Cavan, Sligo, Meath, Roscommon, Mayo, and Tipperary, reported record-high temperatures for the month of October.

Overall, temperatures throughout the month remained above the long-term average, leaving the nation with a mixed bag of weather experiences.
