Over 100 speeding offenses caught during National Slow Down Day operation

An Garda Síochána has detected 106 speeding offenses in just the first few hours of National Slow Down Day on Wednesday, February 26. The 24-hour nationwide speed enforcement operation aims to reduce dangerous driving on Irish roads.

Among the violations, the most significant was a driver caught traveling at 136km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N3 at Lavey, Stradone, County Cavan. This represents a concerning 36% over the posted speed limit.

The National Slow Down Day initiative, promoted with the hashtag #SlowDown, is part of ongoing efforts by gardaí to improve road safety and reduce traffic fatalities through increased enforcement and public awareness.

According to The Irish Examiner, motorists are reminded that speed limits are in place for safety reasons, and exceeding them significantly increases the risk of serious or fatal collisions.
