Over 60,000 students across Ireland received their Leaving Certificate exam results on Friday.
This year, students saw an average increase of 7.5 percent in their grades, due to post-marking adjustments introduced in response to the Covid pandemic’s disruption.
The adjustment, along with calculated grades during the pandemic, has led to significant grade inflation.
As a result, there is growing attention on when grades will return to pre-pandemic levels.
Addressing the issue, Minister for Education Norma Foley said that the adjustments applied last year will remain in place for students sitting the Leaving Cert in 2025.
However, she noted that from 2025 onwards, these adjustments will gradually be reduced. She emphasized that the reduction should be gradual rather than abrupt.
The decision to implement these adjustments has led to more than two-thirds (68 percent) of students receiving higher grades this year.
