Thousands of people participated in a protest in Dublin to call attention to the nation’s housing crisis. The protesters demanded that the government take immediate action to address the housing shortage.
The Raise the Roof protest comes just a day after the latest homeless figures hit a new all-time high, with nearly 11,400 people now without a home and living in emergency accommodation.
Raise the Roof, a campaign organisation made up of political parties, trade unions, advocacy organisations, homelessness agencies, and advocacy groups, organised the rally.
The protest moved from Parnell Square to the Government Buildings, where a number of speeches were delivered. Thousands of people of all ages filled Merrion Square South.
Elders and pensioners urged the government to act alongside students and young families.
Near the government buildings, a stage was set up where a number of union and campaign group speakers addressed the crowd.
Opposition parties including Sinn Fein, People Before Profit, Labour and the Social Democrats also took part.
