Bank of Ireland has announced the appointment of Akshaya Bhargava as its new chair and governor, effective January 1, 2025.
The Indian born, UK based banker will succeed Patrick Kennedy in the role, following an international search process.
Bhargava has been a member of the Bank of Ireland Group board since January 2024. His vast experience includes serving as a director for multiple companies, including Wealthify Group, Mindtree, Barclays Asset Management, Vahanna, and Avendus Wealth Management.
He is also the founder of several successful fintech companies. He currently serves as executive chair at Bridgeweave, a fintech firm he founded that uses AI models to provide institutional quality research signals and investment ideas to self-directed equity investors.
Prior to his fintech ventures, Bhargava spent 22 years with Citibank, holding several senior positions, including chair and country manager for Czechia.
In 2002, Bhargava became the founding chief executive of Infosys BPO Ltd., where he successfully led the company to its sale in 2006.
